Welcome to the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Center of Ojai website.
Ojai is located in a beautiful valley approximately 12 miles
inland from Ventura and approximately 85 miles northwest of Los
Angeles. Various activities offered at the Ojai Center include
devotional, educational and service programs.
DEVOTIONAL PROGRAM
We meet at 5:30 pm every Sunday at a private
home. The devotional program is comprised of 30 to 40 minutes
of singing in a leader/response format and sometimes in unison
or rounds, followed by group chanting and a reading of Sai
Baba's words. The devotional program is then followed by one of
the programs listed below.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
The educational program lasts 45 minutes to
1 hour. This meeting most often entails a study circle or
discussion of Sai Baba's teachings that is facilitated by one
of the center members. Everyone is encouraged to take turns
reading and sharing, but active participation is not mandatory.
Once a month on guest nights, the center generally has a
speaker or shows a video related to Sai Baba.
The center also has a small 'book store' where new Sai Baba
books, DVDs, CDs, and tapes can be purchased, and a small
library from which Sai Baba books and tapes can be borrowed.
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM
The Ojai Center participates, in
conjunction with the Camarillo and Thousand Oaks Centers, in a
program called Family to Family on the first Saturday of each
month, when a vegetarian breakfast is served. Preparation
starts at 5:00 am, serving at 8:00 am and clean up at 9:00 am.
It's great fun and a good opportunity to work side-by-side with
local devotees and make new friends while serving people from
the community.
The Ojai Center also prepares and serves a home-cooked dinner
once a month during the winter to persons staying at one of the
local winter warming shelters. This shelter houses from 10 to
20 or more persons during the months of November through March.
The Ojai Center also provides bag lunches for the Community
Assistance Program (CAP) of Ojai. These lunches are made once a
month throughout the year and handed out to needy individuals
of the Ojai area.
SAI SPIRITUAL EDUCATION (SSE)
Approximately 25 children of
varying ages generally meet twice a month during the school
year at the Thousand Oaks Center's SSE classes. The children
are assigned to Groups I, II or III, depending on their age.
The SSE classes include devotional singing and the study of Sai
Baba's five human values: Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love,
and Non-Violence. The children are also taught the basic
teachings and principles of the world's major religions -
Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, and
Zoroastrianism, among others. Field trips to various religious
sites and service projects are conducted on occasion, as well
as inspirational plays or skits with spiritual themes.
